Wicker Pendant Lights
Having recently returned from Maison et Objet in Paris there were a lot of recurring themes, items and colours amongst all of the super talented designers and brands on display which I hope to cover in forthcoming posts. One of the obvious trends was the oversized wicker pendant lamp. They were everywhere, inside and outside of the show. Merci had them hanging left right and centre in store so you know they're gonna be big!!
Wicker is the name of the actual weave and essentially can be made from anything - even plastic - but are traditionally made from rattan, bamboo and willow and other plant based, natural materials. Which is why a wicker pendant hangs perfectly alongside the current interiors obsessions of indoor plants and the colour green.
As a natural material, these shades blend into their environment at the same time as making a bold statement due to their size. They can be used in any room of the house, but look particularly stunning in the kitchen. There's no need to worry about having to match to the colour of a room due to their neutral palette and last but not least, you can pick them up for well cheap!!!!
Check out Ikea's Sinnerlig designed by the one and only Ilse Crawford -it's 40 quid!!!
Here are some of my other faves;
Ay Illuminate specialise in bamboo and sisal lights sourcing their hand-made products from Asia and Africa.
Sempre are an interesting Belgian company whose ethos is to offer the design and production of handmade, authentic and natural objects. Alongside their stand at Maison et Objet they provided a bar decorated in stunning greenery and an enormous selection of wicker pendants.
